CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, featuring upgraded camera hardware, faster processing power, and extended battery life. These models come with a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture, alongside the A20 Pro processor and a redesigned vapor chamber aimed at enhancing sustained performance. The Dynamic Island has been shrunk in size but expanded in functionality. Preorders commence September 12, and initial retail sales begin September 18.

The new Main camera employs six laser-cut blades to manage aperture across four settings, allowing users to modify aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. An added histogram feature enables exposure monitoring while framing scenes. Apple has enhanced Photographic Styles with new controls for texture and grain, and video capabilities now include Cinematic effects available after recording at up to 60 frames per second. Additionally, Time-lapse recording now supports 4K video with Dolby Vision HDR.
Another notable feature, called Apple Reference Image, focuses on verifying the authenticity of photographs. Reference mode captures signed sensor data alongside images taken with the Main camera, which is then processed into a reference image using Private Cloud Compute for comparison within the Photos app. Users can compare this reference with the main image to detect visible changes. Apple has also announced plans to support SynthID later in 2026. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, emphasized improvements in camera capabilities, performance, battery life, and intelligence at the launch event.
Variable aperture introduces new control options for iPhone photography
The A20 Pro chip, manufactured with a 2-nanometer process, features a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU provides performance up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The chip also integrates a Dual 16-core Neural Engine, totaling 32 cores. Its redesigned thermal system positions the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber, which offers three times more surface area than previous generations. Apple states this design allows for up to 40% higher sustained performance.
Battery improvements are most noticeable on eSIM-only versions that utilize space once allocated for a physical SIM tray. The iPhone 18 Pro provides up to 36 hours of video playback in Apple’s testing, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours. Wired charging can bring the Pro to 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes. These eSIM-only models will be available in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, among other supported markets.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI and expanded Apple Intelligence features
Both the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max run iOS 27 and support the latest enhancements in Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish following in October. Siri AI can utilize personal context from messages, email, and photos when responding and can act on information displayed on the screen. Cloud-based tasks are handled using Private Cloud Compute, while other Apple Intelligence features operate directly on the device.
The starting price for the iPhone 18 Pro is $1,199 in the United States, with the Pro Max beginning at $1,299. Buyers can choose storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. The phones will be available in black, silver, glacier, and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12, and sales will start on September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions. An additional 20 markets will receive the new Pro lineup on September 25, broadening availability.
